The questions we hear most often from guests planning a stay with us — and the honest answers.

What are the biggest annual events in Galena, Illinois?

Galena's calendar runs year-round. In winter and spring: Eagle Ridge Winter Carnival (Presidents' Day weekend, February) and Galena Whiskey Weekend (March). Early summer brings Galena Pride, Corkless in Galena, and the Great Galena Balloon Race — all in June. Late summer and fall bring the Galena Brew Fest (August 1), Jo Daviess County Fair (July 30 – August 2), Galena Oktoberfest (October 3), the Galena Country Fair (October 10–11), and the 45th Annual Halloween Parade (October 24). The year closes with Galena Cellars' Nouveau Weekend in November, Galena Holidaze (December 5), and Night of Luminaria (December 12). 2026 is also Galena's Bicentennial, with a citywide 200th Birthday Celebration on December 27.

When should I visit Galena for the best weather and events?

July and August are Galena's peak busy season — warm days, packed farmers markets and sidewalk sales, Music at the Marina, Brew Fest, and the Jo Daviess County Fair. September and October follow closely: fantastic weather, leaf peeping through the Driftless bluffs, and back-to-back weekends of community festivals — Oktoberfest, the Country Fair, the Cemetery Walk, and the Halloween Parade. December is uniquely magical between Holidaze and Luminaria on Main Street.

How close are The Collection Vacation Homes to downtown Galena?

Our homes are located primarily in The Galena Territory — a private community about 15 minutes by car from Historic Main Street and about 20 minutes from Chestnut Mountain Resort. Eagle Ridge Resort and the Territory's marina, farmers market, and trails are all inside the Territory itself, right at your doorstep.

Do I need to book a vacation home far in advance for fall festivals?

Yes — the Halloween Parade weekend, the Country Fair weekend, and Oktoberfest weekend routinely sell out 6+ months ahead. Holiday weekends in December book similarly early. For summer weekends, 2–3 months of lead time is usually enough.

Are Galena events family-friendly?

Almost all of them. The Farmers Market, County Fair, Elizabeth Harvest Festival, Halloween Parade, Cemetery Walk, and Meteors on the Mound are all specifically designed for families with kids. Oktoberfest and Ladies Getaway Weekend lean adult but are still welcoming.

What's happening for Galena's 200th anniversary in 2026?

Galena is celebrating its Bicentennial all year long — the town officially adopted the name "Galena" in December 1826. Milestones include a Bicentennial Corn Boil on August 29, and the 200th Birthday Celebration itself on December 27, 2026. Nearly every regular event has a bicentennial twist this year.
